Got Hope?

Watch this video. It is one of the best made cases for why we need our politicians to be representative of all the people living here, and not just a select few.

Without hope, the US's give up. I know that you cannot live on hope alone, but without it life is not worth living. YOU and YOU and YOU and YOU have to give them hope.

~ Harvey Milk

Just for the record, G-d did not get the last laugh when John Lennon was murdered

The notion that G-d did in fact get the last laugh when John Lennon was murdered was thrown out as a completely random side-note in the middle of a discussion on the evolution of morality. This comment was preceded by a tangential discussion on the lyrics of one of Lennon’s songs entitled G-d; “G-d is a concept by which we measure our pain… I don't believe in Jesus…I don’t believe in Buddha…I just believe in me...and that reality.” By following his discussion on the lyrics of Lennon’s song with “well G-d got the last laugh” is absolutely offensive.

I have no idea why the professor felt his statement (1) had any validity, (2) was appropriate for a class focused on the evolution of morality (or any class for that matter), or (3) could coincide with his notion of G-d as a moral agent. To imply that we are justified in killing people because they don’t conform to our belief standards and that G-d simply sits around chortling at murder is not just ridiculous; it is offensive and even threatening to any student in the room who does not prescribe to his concepts of G-d.

I truly hope this professor misspoke.
